ERICA LEAZENBY, MD, IFMCP, Chef
Dr. Erica Leazenby is a board-certified Family Physician, Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner, and Natural Food Chef. A graduate of the Indiana University School of Medicine and the Natural Gourmet Institute for Culinary and Healing Arts in New York City, she brings over 25 years of experience in primary care, urgent care, and public health.
Throughout her career, Dr. Leazenby recognized a fundamental limitation in conventional medicine: its tendency to focus narrowly on symptoms rather than root causes. This insight led her to pursue advanced training with the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM)—the global leader in evidence-based, systems biology approaches to chronic disease. Since 2016, she has practiced Functional Medicine exclusively through Relish Health, the micro-practice she founded to offer personalized, physician-guided care for those seeking a deeper, more proactive path to wellness.
Dr. Leazenby integrates her medical expertise with her passion for food as medicine, empowering patients to adopt sustainable lifestyle changes that address nutrition, stress, sleep, hormonal balance, gut health, and metabolic function. Her approach is grounded in listening deeply, looking beyond lab values, and partnering closely with patients to create tailored plans that foster long-term vitality.
She is fellowship trained by the American Board of Obesity Medicine and holds credentialing as a North American Menopause Society Certified Menopause Practitioner, allowing her to offer highly nuanced care for midlife women navigating hormonal transition and metabolic change.
As an active member with the Institute for Functional Medicine, Dr. Leazenby contributes to advancing the field through community-based teaching and clinical mentorship. Her clinical work is informed by the latest research, including IFM’s rigorous standards and commitment to transforming healthcare delivery through science, education, and policy leadership.
Dr. Leazenby is honored to carry forward a family legacy as the third generation of physicians committed to innovation in patient care. Her greatest joy lies in preparing nourishing meals for her family and friends, and witnessing her patients reclaim energy, clarity, and resilience.
She lives in Carmel, Indiana with her husband, David, and their two children. Outside of work, she enjoys food blogging, gardening, traveling, and serving in her church community.
